Overview of Station 7
At Station 7, you'll encounter three types of targets. The high house target is launched from the high house on your left. The low house target is launched from the low house on your right. Both high and low house clays are released simultaneously in doubles.
Hitting the High House Target
The high house target at Station 7 requires careful setup and concentration. Position your hips to the break-point near the center stake. This is where the clay will be intercepted, so approach the single shot similarly. Your hold-point should be about 20 feet out from the house and aligned with the bottom of the window. Keep your eyes focused over the barrel and towards the window. Once ready, call for the bird and move diagonally up to the target line with a sustained lead. Avoid mounting the gun to your face too early to prevent measuring the lead. If you see a collapsing lead in your videos, it suggests your eyes went to the barrel, slowing the gun speed. Concentrate on the clay, fire, and practice a smooth follow-through.
Conquering the Low House Target
Next, you'll face the low house clay. Your setup and stance will be the same, with hips aligned to the break-point over the center stake. Start with a hold-point about 1 or 2 feet below the center hoop. This ensures good visibility and requires only a small move to the target line. Focus beyond the barrel. Call for the bird and shoot the clay once it's in clear focus. This is a true straight-away target, so there's no lead required. Match the line of the target and fire.
Managing Doubles
Doubles at Station 7 require quick reactions and precise coordination. Your setup and stance will be the same, with hips aligned to the break-point over the center stake. Take the low house shot first and break it before the center stake. Start with a hold-point just below the center hoop, then focus in the distance. You'll notice very little gun movement for this target. Mount the gun and move up to the target line. After breaking the low house, shift your eyes over the barrel to the incoming clay from the high house. Move with sustained lead and fire once you're on the target line. It's a small move on the low house and a steady swing on the high house.
